Scuppers

One thing everyone used to do on the old Radon urchin boats up Santa Barbara way was to make the scuppers bigger. Of course this always happened after the one trip back from San Miguel when you realized the need.
Has anyone reworked their scuppers or had problems with the factory sizing or the screen blocking water exit on one of those bad days.
I am thinking for Baja and a downpour and bad weather, a what if scenario?
I think making the drains bigger can't hurt.
