Since it was a federal Holiday I figured what better way to spend it than exploring the bay for halibut. Fished with the boss from work. Launched from the dreaded shelter island launch ramp (I dread it at low tide and high winds). Had a good outgoing tide by late morning and the drifts were perfect. Fished both sides of the channel outside of Ballast point for steady action on spotted bay bass, sandies, sculpin, and a calico. Finally near the end of Zuniga jetty the boss scores two legal halibut. The larger went about 6 lbs. Beautiful day on the water with minimum winds in the launch basin (I hate that launch ramp). Lots of taco meat. I had forgotten how fun and productive the S.D. Bay can be. Since I let the boss score the halibut I think it's time to ask for a raise. Brown nosing has it's benefits.

If he doesn't give you a raise then take him hoopin and make him pull all the traps! I hear the bugs are deep now!
