Well, I never found a leak. Maybe the oil got spilled off the stern and ended up in a few spots.
I have the drive on a dolly so I laid the entire dolly on its side but still nothing came out. I'm going with the spill theory.
Anyhow, I need to install the new boots and cable.
When I took the old ones off it seemed like there was an adhesive on the seating surfaces but the directions that came with the new boots don't mention any sealant or adhesive.
Should I use some? If so, what kind?
Also, when re-installing the drive: what is better anti-seize or grease? I have both so it's just a matter of choosing.
Thanks in advance.

For me grease has out preformed anti-seize in the saltwater environment. I like Mobil AW-2 of it's replacement XHP-222

On the boots, I put lots of them on without any sealant. I was given some sealant marketed by Johnson/Evinrude that is nothing more than thinned out Permatex that I have use when I remember I have it.

When I was a young man I used anti-seize on my props. The saltwater made it like cement. I had to chizel my props off.
Like Mike, I really, use the heck out of marine greese.

I also use the Johnson/Evinrude (Permatex like) stuff on bolts.

On the boots, I've used nothing, greese and Johnson/Evinrude and it all is about the same. If you get a leak it will probably come from a hook in the boot not because it seaped through the boot.

Thanks for the help.
On the grease vs anti seize I was thinking more along the lines of the pins not the props.
Thanks for your help. Blackman owners are always helpful and responsive.
Especially Mike.

I use grease on the pins, bolts, prop and anywhere two parts touch that will need to be taken apart someday.
