My wife was doing the bills this morning and said my truck needed to be smogged before she could send in the registration paperwork.
I called BS but grabbed the papers and headed down to the local smog shop to get some answers. $59.99 later I had my answer.
Starting this year a 98 or newer diesel vehicle, with a GVW of 14,000 or less needs to go to the smog station.
The test consisted of opening the hood to verify the dipstick, oil fill cap and the crankcase vent recovery valve were there. He also ran the truck at idle for a minute with the computer plugged into the diagnostic plug and did a visual on the tail pipe for smoke.
If your truck is an even year model, you might not see this until next year.
