Day One:
Shotgun start at 7:00 and it's like a figure eight racing with Chinese taxi cabs as 100+ teams round the cape at Los Cabos. Everything from a 20' skiff to 60' Vikings going WFO. Crazy stuff! Ran 38 miles out from Los Cabos to the Pacific side. Found a small pod of dolphin and trolled through them with a hook up. Fresh bait hit the water greeted with instant hook-up while jig fish was being reeled in. I'm clearing the port rigger and trying to get the friggin' line to pop outta the darn clip... then BAM it un-hooks because the darn jig gets hit! Portagee luck! All fish were 15-20 pounders, no the 200 toads we were looking for but we kicked the skunk off the boat. Trolled around for hours for nada. We got hit two more times around 1:30, but fish weren't hooked well and lost them before they got to the boat. Towards the end of the day a Marlin hits one of the jigs. Deckhand asks if we want to catch it!?!? Well duh! We slow troll a live bait and hook up. Short fight and Striped Marlin is brought along side and released. Lines out at 4:00 and we head home with 3 tuna and a marlin flag flying on the riggers.

Day Two:
Another shotgun start at 7:00am, replay of day one. Crazy! We run out but stick closer to the beach this time. Lines in and not too long before a reel goes off. Bull Dorado puts up a decent fight and the crew sinks the gaff and gives the fish a good beating with tree limb. Why buy a fish bat when you can get a branch for free right? We troll for a little while more than start to run outside a little more and come into a good size school of feeding dolpins. The buffalo are hitting flying fish pretty hard and tuna start boiling and jumping. It's on baby. We boat four of the same grade of yellowfin from day one. All on the troll. We miss getting two hook ups to stick. The captian wants to leave to find a better grade of fish, we relent and leave fish to find fish (this is where we learn our hard lesson kids). A little more running and a lot of trolling. Nada. Sucks... should of stayed with the dolphin and caught smaller tuna. We get a hit buy a Sailfish but it doesn't stick. Seas and wind have really picked up by now and we're gonna have a rough ride home. Lines out at 4:00 and we head in, taking a saltwater bath the whole way. The water is 85 degrees so it isn't too bad. Went to the weigh in dock for the dorado (we entered the Dorado/Wahoo jackpot too) and we come up short. Only 26.4 lbs.

We all had a killer time and were so beat at the end of each day we could barely lift a cerveza. I almost fell asleep in my dinner Friday night and hit the rack at 6:45. That's tired! Can't wait till next year!

Great going Allen. Glad you enjoyed the tournament. Nice boat. Nice fish, good food and warm water , how can it get better? I guess more fish and bigger fish, but just like fishing from San Diego, take what you can get and wait for next year. Should have my turbos ready by next week. I need to get John B. to install them and rebuild my fresh water pumps. Going to Maui at end of this week, Friday 11th, till the 18th. What hotel was the lady selling Malasadas? Any restaurant recommendations? Maybe see you at the BOCA BBQ. Good luck on your next fishing trip.
