Yes, I cod in the middle of the offshore season.
With the depth limit being rolled back to 180 feet come September 1, we took one more shot at the 200' Ling and Red spots off La Jolla today.
We started out at gray light(yes I get up at 4am to go coding) on the south kelp hoping for a WSB. Bro in-law worked in the water while I soaked some bait off the back of the boat. Once again we got skunked on the cracker bass.
Next stop was off Torrey Pines for a shot at the Reds spot that was so good to us last year. Another skunk.
Now we're getting desperate and head off to the Ling spot to try and save the morning. We get setup around 9:00 and it's fast and furious for 20 minutes on the Lings. By 9:30 everything changed and we couldn't buy a bite.
We made a quick stop at Green tank on the way in for our last taste of skunk for the day. Everywhere we went today was loaded with chovies being chased by macs and not a game fish in sight.
Radio chatter: 425, 371, cool green water with yellows on the kelps.
Lower 500 to the 181, clean blue water with Dorado on the weeds.
