While some of you are out racking up points on rockfish and Yellowtail, most know I blew an oil cooler on my motor and turned my winter into a boat project. Bought another used motor while I look for a good deal on an oil cooler to put original motor back together. Motor came complete with spare transom plate, rams, pump, power steering (not going to use), dash panel, wiring harness, you name it.

Just a couple before and after pics of the bilge (not done) after motor pulled, before cleanup, and after cleanup. Along with the replacement motor before I started taking it almost completely apart and going through it, and after pic now that it's almost ready.

That new motor sure looks sweet. How about we drop that baby in my sled for a test drive. I bet I could hit 40 knots with that much HP.

That bilge is looking a lot better after the solvent wash. Starting to look like it did a year ago when you put all that work into cleaning it up.

What made you think you had an oil leak in the first place?

On your new motor, is the white canister in front of the aftercooler your the oil filter?

The engine looks sweet, maybe now you'll have to make it a freshwater only boat now!

Glenn, Wow that bilge was bad. Looks much better after you cleaned it.

Where did you find such a nice used engine? I'm trying to find a pair of 41B, D or P and haven't had any success.

Good luck on the project.

The white canister in front of the intercooler is the oil filter. Freshwater? LOL... my boat doesn't know how to go less then 70-140 miles one way. No such lake big enough.

Mike, I might have two fully operational overhauled engines if I can get that oil cooler, but I don't think a KAD42 will even fit in the hole of a 23'er... LOL

Bill, I got the other motor from a friend of Harold Davis, of Davis boats, out of Morro Bay. Harold and his friend brought it down to me the day after Thankgiving, 5:30AM, on their way to his 10-day Royal Polaris trip last month. Call Harold and let him know you have your eye out for a couple motors, he repowers his customers boats with 43's and the new D series now. He, like Blackman's, have been using VP motors since inception. Oh, and I only cleaned that bilge so far, haven't even started the sanding and total repaint and hardware upgrades yet.

My number is: 619.654.1161. I'm in the Miramar/Mira Mesa area. I am off a number of days during the xmas and New Years break, and will be getting busy on the work on the boat while there is daylight, if the weather holds.

Give me a ring.

Glenn,

I especially like the new orange colored covers. If your goal is for your boat to match the color of the No Slack, you've got a long way to go.

Nice engine/bilge. Happy holoidays,
Scott

Once you go orange, you never go back
